Carnival Procession

Procession theme: Sports and Leisure

Starting point: West Mersea Park, Barfield Road, CO5 8QX

Mersea Park, sometimes shown as School Gardens or playing fields on older maps, is between the Blue British Legion building and the small children’s play area. There is a black iron gate at the entrance to Mersea Park.

End Point: West Mersea Village Fete, Willoughby Car Park, CO5 8BH
Gates open for Carnival entries from: 09:15
We suggest that you arrive on site by: 09:30
Judging begins at: 09:45 – 10:00

Part of the judging criteria of entries will be how:

  • they reflect the Carnival theme
  • the participants have been involved in creating the entry.

Carnival procession begins at: 11:00

Carnival Route

West Mersea Park (leaving at 11:00) – Barfield Road – High Steet – Yorick Road – Prince Albert Road – Broomhills Road – Victoria Esplanade – Willoughby Car Park (arriving at approx 11:50).

All entrants must sign in on arrival at West Mersea Park; gates open at 09:15. You will then be directed to your appropriate position on the field.

 Parking:  Pay & display, Victoria Esplanade Car Park, Victoria Esplanade, West Mersea, CO5 8BH

Toilets: Start point: Mersea Primary School opposite Mersea Park. End point: Victoria Esplanade.

Refreshments: Starting point: If you would like to buy drinks or snacks they can be purchased from the Co-Op, The Island Bakery (with café), The Gilt Tea Rooms or Tesco Express which are all on Barfield Road within a short walk from the starting point. End point: on the West Mersea Village Fete field or the Two Sugars Café on Victoria Esplanande.

Entry Safety Marshals

Each entry must provide two safety marshals. Each marshal must read the Safety Marshal notes that will be emailed to them and meet with our Marshal lead before the procession leaves the field.
